Advisory Body: AIDS Malignancy Working Group
The AIDS Malignancy Working Group (AMWG) is a national scientific forum established to identify research opportunities and to provide recommendations on research priorities, resource needs, and how best to address them across the range of issues in AIDS malignancies. It is a dynamic, multidisciplinary group composed of both extramural and intramural NIH staff, outside investigators, and community representatives. It meets approximately once every year or two.
The AMWG was first convened in 1996 in response to emerging opportunities in HIV/AIDS-related malignancies research and the rapid development of tools enabling the pursuit of crucial research questions in this area. By design, the AMWG represents a spectrum of disciplines currently working in or with an interest in AIDS malignancies and those conducting research that may have relevance for these cancers.
The primary objectives of the AMWG are to:- Provide advice to the NCI on how to best invest in research in HIV-associated malignancies over the next several years; and
- Direct the NCI’s research investment in HIV-associated malignancies in response to changes in the HIV epidemic, changes in therapy, and recent understandings.
